Why an Echo?
The echocardiogram ultrasound is an important tool for physicians. It uses soundwaves to scan the heart and nearby blood vessels to produce a picture (echocardiogram). This picture provides information as to the function and structure of the heart. The echocardiogram can be used to monitor the heart and diagnose certain diseases such as:
- damage from a heart attack
- heart failure
- congenital heart disease
- problems with the heart valves
- endocarditis
- and cardiomyopathy
This machine will:
- Save time
- Provide a rapid diagnosis
- Save patients from having to travel along busy and dangerous highways
- Free up ambulances and paramedics during a patient transfer
- Increase the capacity of the ultrasound department

Fundraising Update:
Congratulations Revelstoke! Over $250,000 was raised in less than 3 days to purchase an echocardiogram ultrasound for Queen Victoria Hospital. You continue to show how we care for one another.
The purchase of the echocardiogram ultrasound will have instant impact to our community. A
hire of an additional time ultrasound technician will shorten wait times for general ultrasounds and thus provide more rapid diagnosis and treatment. Being able to do echocardiogram scans locally will mean 400-500 people a year will not have to drive to a hospital out of town.
The Revelstoke District Health Foundation had its kick-off ceremony for the echocardiogram ultrasound fundraising campaign on Giving Tuesday Dec. 3rd 10:30am at Queen Victoria Hospital. A full list of donors can be found below.
The Foundation was over $180,000 by conclusion of kick off ceremony. Donations came in throughout the day – e-transfers, via the CanadaHelp website, cheques/cash at our manned displays and Save-on Foods and Southside Market. By end of our kick-off day our total was $192,000!
On Wednesday Dec 4th at 3pm, the Revelstoke Credit Union stepped up with a $30K donation and by 8pm that evening we had surpassed our $250,000 goal!
As we surpassed our $250,000 target – all surplus funds will be designated
towards future imaging department projects.
A complete listing of donors will be available soon online at the Health
Foundation website. In addition, there will be a permanent donor recognition display at the
imaging department at Queen Victoria Hospital.
This campaign also had dozens of volunteers, donations of materials/services, discounts from all the media, donations in kind from many businesses – we could not have done it without all of you.
Amazed, astounded, overwhelmed, ecstatic, marvelous, proud, humbled – there is a not a single word that could capture all the emotions from last week.
On behalf of Interior Health and The Revelstoke District Health Foundation our most sincere thank-you for the outpouring of support and generosity.
Thank you to our generous donors:
